The 2022 BJSHS Health Careers Classes were the recipients of a grant from NEI-AHEC (North East Indiana Area Health Education Center). As part of their grant, the students requested funds to purchase supplies to make every day learning a little less stressful for their classmates at the Junior High and High School levels.
Students purchased two large storage cabinets stocked with items such as pens, pencils, notebooks, folders, index cards, toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, lotion, deodorant, chapstick, combs, hair ties, care bags, and feminine hygiene products. Cabinets also contain pamphlets with teen related topics such as peer pressure and how to manage stress, etc. In addition, students also purchased 4 stands to place in the ladies' restrooms. The stands are stocked with feminine hygiene items, as well as toothpaste and toothbrushes. All of these items are at no cost to students. The Health Careers students' goal is to provide easier access to any of these items, with less judgement and embarrassment.
Students would like to encourage individuals and businesses to help keep these items stocked. They cannot do it without you! Anyone that would like to help through product donations, please drop items off at Blackford High School. Monetary donations can be made to BJSHS with “BEAR NECESSITIES” in the memo line.
Our Health Careers Students are no strangers to doing good deeds for others. Past grant projects at Blackford High School have included water bottle filling stations installed in the main building, an ala carte salad bar, as well has Healthier Alternatives snack vending machine. Thank you to our community for your support!
